The Italian Cultural Institute in Algiers has produced “Le Chant du Fragile”, an immersive experience halfway between poetry and theatrical performance, directed by Mehdi Hachid.
Created in collaboration with the EUNIC cluster in Algiers, the European network of cultural institutes, the initiative is part of the project “Focus on EUNIC in Algeria”.
Amidst suspended veils, light effects and voices echoing through the space, the verses of European poets – such as Nichita Stănescu, Antonio Machado, Czesław Miłosz and Louis Aragon – shatter and reassemble, turning poetry into a sensory experience that directly engages the audience. Spectators are invited to move, to chase words, to reconstruct meanings in constant flux.
Paola Cordone, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Algiers, explored the theme of the installation, emphasising that “in a world dominated by performance and speed, the fragility of the human soul is often put to the test”. She added:”This evening provided the opposite experience – that of ‘sensitivity, doubt and fragile beauty’”.
