On the occasion of the Italian Design Day in the World 2026, the Italian Cultural Institute of São Paulo is hosting the exhibition “5+1”, curated by Beto Cocenza. The show brings together six leading names in contemporary Italian design, in close synergy with BOOMSPDESIGN, a prominent event within the DW! São Paulo Design Week.

The exhibition features five designers who were named Designer of the Year in previous editions of BOOMSPDESIGN – Matteo Cibic, Marcantonio, Francesco Maccapani Missoni, Simone Micheli and Antonio Aricò – alongside Sara Ricciardi, who received the award in the current edition. Together, they form a panorama that celebrates the strength, diversity and continuity of contemporary Italian design.

“The exhibition, organised on the occasion of Italian Design Day, effectively encapsulates the five plus one years of collaboration between the Institute and BOOMSPDESIGN. It presents the finest works of the six Italian designers, some conceived in Italy and produced in Brazil, exemplifying the perfect and synergistic cooperation between the two countries in the field of design”, stated Lillo Guarneri, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of São Paulo.

Conceived by Beto Cocenza in 2008, BOOMSPDESIGN has become a key reference point in the national calendar, promoting design culture and its connections with art and architecture. Each edition of the forum introduces innovative formats and aims to discuss, update, explore and rethink design, fostering a critical perspective and encouraging the formation of opinions among professionals, students and enthusiasts.
