The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assists Italians in Bolivia stranded by bad weather in the high mountains

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Crisis Unit and in close coordination with the Embassy of Italy in La Paz, assisted yesterday around a hundred Italian citizens who had become stranded in the high mountains due to the adverse weather conditions currently affecting Bolivia.

Seasonal bad weather is leading to closures or reduced opening hours at the border crossings between Bolivia and Chile, causing potential disruption for those travelling through this area.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs therefore urges Italian nationals to consider possible changes to their travel plans. Anyone who, however, intends to go ahead should be prepared for emergencies in the high mountains, bearing in mind that rescue operations may not necessarily be immediate. All travellers are advised to keep up to date via ‘Viaggiare Sicuri’ and to register their travel details on ‘Dove siamo nel Mondo’ or via the ‘Viaggiare Sicuri’ app.
