The final day of the system mission to South America led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani will be devoted to visiting some of Italy’s leading enterprises in Brazil.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will visit Enel’s São Paulo headquarters at 9.30 a.m. local time (2.30 p.m. Italian time) to meet with the heads of the Brazilian subsidiary and visit the Distribution Operation Centre (Centro de Operações de Distribuição), the control centre from which the power grid in the concession area – which serves over 8 million customers – is monitored and managed in real time. Enel is one of the leading private operators in the Brazilian energy sector, with 10,000 direct employees and EUR 13 billion in investments in the country.
The Minister will also visit Stellantis’s administrative offices in São Paulo, in the year marking the 50th anniversary of the Betim Automotive Complex, which was inaugurated on 9 July 1976 as Fiat’s first factory outside Italy. An industrial decision born of the vision of Gianni Agnelli who, even back then, had recognised Brazil’s vast potential and the importance of investing in a long-term relationship with the country. Since then, over 18 million vehicles have been produced, of which more than 4 million have been exported to around 40 countries. These figures bear witness to the contribution made by Italian industry to economic relations between Italy and Brazil, and to a presence that finds one of its most recognisable symbols in the Fiat brand, which is deeply rooted in the Brazilian market.
Before returning to Rome, the Minister will stop off at 11.00 a.m. local time (4 p.m. Italian time) at the Museum of Immigration, which is dedicated to the history of migration in the State of São Paulo and in Brazil and is housed in the historic building of the former Hospedaria dos Imigrantes, where millions of immigrants – many of them from Italy – were welcomed over the course of decades. The visit will continue at the ‘Arsenale della Speranza’ reception Centre, established in 1996 thanks to the efforts of Ernesto Olivero, founder of Sermig – the Young Missionary Service – and the Arsenale della Pace in Turin. The Centre welcomes around 1,200 homeless people every day, providing food, accommodation and social support, as well as literacy and professional training courses.
