An innovative collaboration with Bologna F.C. has enabled the Consulate General of Italy in Bahia Blanca to organise an exhibition, developed in partnership with the local Centro Emiliano-Romagnolo, and hosted at the Bahia Blanca Sports Museum.
The exhibition, featuring original archive material, traces Bologna F.C.’s historic tour of Argentina in 1929, when the team – then Italian champion – visited the South American country. Particular attention is paid to the huge public turnout generated by the match played in Bahia Blanca itself against the Liga del Sur team, which ended in victory for the Italian side.
Carlo Caliceti, Head of Communications at Bologna F.C., spoke at the exhibition opening on 18 September, outlining the football club’s evolution from its early days to its most recent successes. Messages of greeting were also sent by the Chief Executive of Bologna F.C., Claudio Fenucci, and Rodrigo Palacio, a former star player for Inter, Genoa and Bologna.
The exhibition is part of the programme of events organised to mark Italian Sports Day Around the World and pays tribute to the social, cultural and economic impact that Italian football continues to have in Argentina. As Consul General Nicola Bazzani noted, this bond has its roots in the history of Italian immigration and remains relevant today.
Admission to the exhibition is free and it is open from Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm.
