The Deputy Minister Del Re had a telephone conversation with the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, focusing on some topical issues on the international cooperation agenda.
The preparation of the next Conference in support of the democratic transition in Sudan, scheduled for 25 June, for which the Commissioner called for Italian participation, was discussed. In reassuring the Commissioner about the attention paid to this dossier by the Government, The Deputy Minister recalled Italy’s traditional proximity to Khartoum and the forty- years Italian cooperation in the country. She mentioned the strengthening of bilateral political dialogue and the expansion of partnership opportunities (including yesterday’s roadshow with the participation of over 100 Italian entrepreneurs).
Coming to “Team Europe” for the global European response to Covid-19 in support of partner countries and vulnerable populations, the Deputy Minister and the Commissioner welcomed the mobilisation, beyond expectations, of EU and Member States’ resources and agreed on a common commitment to enhance the initiative in terms of communication.
Finally, Commissioner Urpilainen updated the Deputy Minister on the latest developments in the negotiation of the new EU-ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) agreement, 20 years after the Cotonou Partnership Agreement on eradication of poverty and sustainable development.
