In the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the Italian-German conference on cultural heritage that opens today in Berlin confirms the centrality of culture within the close bilateral relations that binds Italy to one of its top European partners. The two-day study conference is promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin, with the contribution of important German personalities in the sector.
The event offers the opportunity to explore the ties between culture, tradition and innovation and to reflect on the importance of recovering, protecting and valorising cultural property as a Nation’s historical and identitarian resource and to probe the economic and social role of the tangible and intangible heritage of the two Countries.
The conference opens today at the Italian Embassy in Berlin, with greetings by the Italian Ambassador Pietro Benassi and Minister Plenipotentiary Vincenzo De Luca, the Director General for Economic and Cultural Promotion and Innovation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The second day of the conference will be held at Berlin’s Freie Universität on 19 April. The keynote speakers at the event will be Salvatore Settis, Italian archaeologist and art historian and Eike Schmidt, director of the Uffizi Museum in Florence.
