The fifth annual meeting of the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation was held at the Farnesina. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re.
In her opening remarks, the Deputy Minister mentioned that she will soon be visiting the Countries of the Horn of Africa. Her visit follows the one carried out by President Conte last month. The Deputy Minister added that other regions of the African Continent will be visited later on as well.
During the meeting, the Committee approved a number of contributions worth almost 70 million Euros, half of which allocated to two tied aid contributions for Kenya and Tunisia.
This confirms Africa as the privileged addressee of the Italian Cooperation: in fact, 6 contributions were approved for African Countries (besides Kenya and Tunisia, also Senegal, Sudan and Somalia). In addition, 2 contributions were approved for the Middle East (Lebanon and Palestine), one for the Western Balkans (Bosnia Herzegovina) and one for Asia (Afghanistan), besides a voluntary contribution for UNESCO.
Finally, the Committee approved the “2018 call for tenders from profit organisations” an instrument involving the entrepreneurial world in the cooperation with a 5-milion-Euro allocation aimed at co-funding entrepreneurial initiatives in the Cooperation service’s partner Countries.
