The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed his sorrow at the death of Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni, a leading figure in the area of international law and intercultural dialogue.
With the passing of Professor Bassiouni, the international community has lost the “Godfather of International Criminal Law”. He was a fervent supporter of the International Criminal Court and an expert on war crimes and human rights’ violations, serving in a number of capacities for the United Nations.
Recalling the excellent working relationship that had built up over the years between Bassiouni, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Istituto Superiore Internazionale di Scienze Criminali di Siracusa (Siracusa International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences), the Minister said that he would ensure that Professor Bassiouni’s legacy would continue to be a source of inspiration for dialogue and peace.
