Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni receives the President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré

The meeting, which took place at a time when a democratic transition process is in motion in the African country, highlighted the political will to strengthen the political ties with Italy and the attention Italy pays to the whole of the Sahel region.
The talks focused, among other issues, on relaunching the bilateral political and economic cooperation between the two Countries, but most of all on security issues also from the regional perspective. With regards to the fight against terrorism and illegal trafficking, Minister Gentiloni wished for the cooperation between Italy and Burkina Faso to intensify. As to the migration phenomenon, Minister Gentiloni reminded President Kabore’ that “it is a challenge that unites Europe and Africa.” He then added that ” an ever closer cooperation between the Countries of origin, transit and destination of migration flows is of the essence.”Gentiloni and Kabore’  reviewed the status of the very actie  and diverified development cooperation.Italian Cooperation plays a key-role in Burkina Faso which is Italy’s priority Country in terms of governmental development assistance.
