To celebrate the 3rd edition of Italian Design Day promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Cultural Institute in Dublin, in conjunction with the Milano Design Film Festival (MDFF), and with the contribution of Darta Saving Life Assurance, presented a video show entitled Italian Design. Five Perspectives, to celebrate five protagonists of Italian design: Gillo Dorfles, Alessandro Mendini, Tobia Scarpa, Marco Guazzini and Giacomo Moor. The videos were screened at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 20 March 2019, and introduced by Silvia Robertazzi, the co-curator of MDFF.

The guiding concept was to present the historical figures of Italian design in Ireland, a Country full of potential but in which the culture of design has not yet conquered a key role. In fact, the aim of the show was to communicate the message that the historical relevance of personalities like Tobia Scarpa, who was the son of the great architect Carlo Scarpa, another extraordinary and original interpreter of Italian “know-how”. In addition, the show also wanted to pay a dutiful tribute to the other masters of Italian design who recently passed away, like Gillo Dorfles and Alessandro Mendini.

To complete a voyage into the origins, characteristics and diversity of Italian design, the show included the creations of the latest generations of designers like Marco Guazzini, with his rigorously designed handcrafted works and objects, and Giacomo Moor, with his creations that combine apparently unmatchable materials like cloth and marble.
