A photo-film exhibition on Vittorio Storaro, titled “Scrivere con la Luce. Doppie impressioni: tra Fotografia e Cinematografia” (“Writing with Light: Double Impressions, between Photography and Cinematography”) will open in Buenos Aires on 20 November with a view to telling a story in motion through the photographic lens. Storaro’s photographic work, although completely incorporated into his film-making, is conceived and presented in this exhibition like a story told through self-standing images. The exhibition, which will run till 11 December, is organized into three sections showcasing the photographer’s thirty-year-long research on the theme of light and colours. The event has been organised by SIA (Italy-Argentina Society), the Ministry of Culture, the Federal System of Public Media and Contents (Sistema Federal de Medios y Contenidos Publicos), in partnership with the Italian Embassy in Argentina and the Italian Cultural Institute in Buenos Aires. Storaro, one of Italy’s most preeminent Italian photography directors, has been awarded three Oscars, namely for “Apocalypse Now”, “Reds”and “The Last Emperor”. He started studying photography at the “Duca d’Aosta” Technical Institute of Rome when he was 11-years-old, and later enrolled in the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. He was director of photography for all the films directed by Bernardo Bertolucci from 1970 (“The Conformist”) to 1993 (“Little Buddha”). In 2005 he was president of the jury of the Locarno International Film Festival, where he was assigned the Excellence Awards. Honorary president of the Accademia della Luce, Storaro authored a three-volume encyclopaedia “Scrivere con la luce” (“Writing with Light”), which is the name of the exhibition, and “The Sign of a Destiny” (“Il Segno di un Destino”), a journey between cinema and painting.
