At the Farnesina, dialogue on migration issues

Second meeting today at the Farnesina of the informal working group on the Khartoum Process Set up as an initiative of Italy’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Khartoum Process is an institutionalized EU forum for political dialogue on migration with the origin and transit Countries in the Horn of Africa and in the Mediterranean, and it includes the international organizations operating in the sector. The aim of the initiative is to promote concrete projects for a more effective management of migration flows in the medium to long term.

Today’s meeting, at the technical level, is the second after the Paris meeting last February; it is attended by about 90 representatives of the Countries and organizations that take part in the Khartoum Process. It is an opportunity to discuss possible new initiatives and to evaluate those that are under way. Among the latter is SINCE – Stemming Irregular Migration in Northern and Central Ethiopia, a program led by Italy that is worth 20 million euros and is the first project financed by the Trust Fund for migrations set up at the La Valletta Summit in November 2015.
