“The award of the contract worth 1.7 billion euro by the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operation (ADCO) to Italy’s MaireTecnimont is a significant achievement highlighting the excellence of the Italian oil and gas industry”, said the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni.
The contract concerns the 3rd development stage of the Al-Dabbiya onshore-offshore oilfield located about 30 km from Abu Dhabi. Production there is expected to reach about 220,000 barrels/day on completion of stage 3.
The “Al Dabbyia” contract was discussed by the Prime Minister in Rome during the visit by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and taken up again by Minister Gentiloni during his visit to the Emirates on 30 November 2014.
“The award of this contract to MaireTecnimont is without a doubt the fruit of the great expertise of this company, which has devoted special attention to this market for many years, and of the efforts of the Italian Ambassador in Abu Dhabi, Giorgio Starace. Ambassador Starace has been working at all levels to illustrate and promote the Italian offering. This success confirms the excellent state of bilateral relations with the UAE at the economic, strategic and cultural levels. Further confirmation comes from the agreement on the first Italian school in the Gulf, where lessons will be held in Italian, English and Arabic.
“The Farnesina will continue”, concluded Minister Gentiloni, “to ensure that System Italy exploits this period of flourishing relations with the Emirates, following the agreement between Italy and Etihad, in view of the major contracts for which some of Italy’s biggest companies will be competing”.
