On a symbolic June 2, the Italian Embassy in Washington organised an extraordinary virtual meeting with the stakeholders of the country system in the United States. The meeting will be an opportunity to reflect on the recent months’ developments and discuss the future.
The Embassy, Consulates, ICE Offices, Italian Cultural Institutes, ENIT, the Bank of Italy and the Chambers of Commerce highlighted the importance of teamwork in a challenging moment for our country. They stressed how to support the recovery in Italy is essential to be able to count not only on the choral effort and support of the institutions but also on the resilience of our companies and the American economy.
During the meeting, it emerged that the widespread propensity and renewed drive towards digital and innovation offer unique opportunities for our companies and particularly attractive investment and collaboration potential. The meeting also highlighted how our companies, with an interchange exceeding 100 billion dollars in 2019 and a surplus of 33 billion dollars, can take advantage of the strong demand for Made in Italy -still very high in the United States – by focussing on quality and investing in new distribution methods.
Finally, Ambassador Varricchio recalled how “at this stage, it is necessary to strengthen and intensify coordination, and an approach increasingly focused on integrated promotion that hinges on the various assets of the Sistema Italia (Italian System) in the United States, brought together virtually today, to outline the guidelines for future action and the relaunch of the Italian presence in the U.S.”.
