Chengdu: Forum on River Basins on World Water Day

“Economic Development and Environmental and Ecological Protection of Large River Basins – Yangtze River” is the theme of the China Ecology and Environment Forum 2019, organised by ECOMONDO in Chengdu, with the support of the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Italian Consulate General in Chongqing. It is a two-day event held on the United Nations World Water Day (on 22 March) within the context of the Chengdu International Environmental Protection Expo, the largest fair in Western China dedicated to environmental protection.

The Forum involves experts and partners of international renown coming from Europe, China and other Countries.

The aim of the Forum is to provide food for thought and dialogue on issues of great interest, including the progressive deterioration of the quantity and quality of available water resources, the social hazards connected to this phenomenon and the need to combine economic development and environmental impact, with a special focus on the conservation and protection of river basins and especially of the basin of the Blue River.

“The China Ecology and Environment Forum – explained Deputy Consul Davide Castellani, in his address – is one of the initiatives supported by the Italian Consulate General that are aimed at promoting cooperation between Italy and China in the field of environmental protection.” He went on: “Thanks to the eco-sustainable approach and the technological advancement of the enterprises involved, Italy is the ideal partner in assisting China through its industrial reconversion process in the perspective of environmental sustainability.” The support of the Ministry of the Environment – he said – “is an evident sign from the Italian Government of its commitment towards bilateral cooperation in a sector of common interest such as that of environmental protection and safeguard.”

Attending the Forum on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment was the Director General Francesco La Camera, and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China was represented by Paolo Bazzoni. The attendance was also high among Chinese Authorities with, among others, Li Yuedong, the Deputy Director General of the Environmental Protection Office of the Province of Sichuan, Yi Bo, the Deputy Director General of the Environmental Protection Office of the city of Chengdu, and Fan Yuansheng, the President of the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry.
