The Vice Minister Marina Sereni presided over the sixth annual meeting of the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation, with the participation of the General Director for Development Cooperation, Giorgio Marrapodi, and the Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, Luca Maestripieri. Representatives of the Ministry for the Economy and Finance and the Savings and Loan Bank also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed contributions for 21 initiatives of development cooperation for a total of 43.8 million euro. In particular, approximately 2.3 million euro were allocated for voluntary contributions in favor of international organizations, and about 41.5 million euro for the realization of multilateral, multi-bilateral and bilateral projects in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, in particular in the sectors of health, food safety and environmental protection, the cultural heritage and support for the employment of young people and women.

“Parliament is examining the proposed budget law for 2022-2024 – said Sereni during the meeting – which provides for increases in the allocations serving to implement the commitment to realign pubic aid gradually to 0.7% of the GDP, as agreed in 2015 by the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. As Minister Di Maio has already announced, we are counting on an increase in current resources, and in particular in 100 million euro for 2022, 200 million for 2023, 250 million for 2024, 300 million for 2025, and 350 million annually starting form 2026”.
