The Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Alberto Pieri, and the Kenyan Treasury Minister, Ukur Yatani, signed an agreement to implement the Malindi Integrated Social Health Development Programme – Phase II. The signing took place in Nairobi on 26 January 2022, in the presence of the Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation Office in Nairobi, Fabio Melloni.

Ambassador Pieri said that the signing of the agreement is part of the consolidated action the Italian Cooperation service is promoting to support Kenya’s development and confirms Italy’s commitment in this regard.

The programme covered by the agreement will be financed through rescue aid in the form of a credit facility for EUR 6.4 million, aimed at improving the living conditions of the population in the Malindi and Magarini sub-Counties, in the Kilifi County. Moreover, it is also in line with the “Kenya Vision 2030’’ country development programme.

The interventions will contribute to the area’s socio-economic development by constructing an 11.5 km paved road in the Ngomeni peninsula, a pedestrian bridge over the Sabaki river, a water supply system, and the supply and installation of equipment for school and health facilities. The implementation of the programme will be entrusted to Kenya’s Coastal Development Authority (CDA), which already successfully managed the completion of the first phase between 2006 and 2012.
