The network of Italian Cultural Institutes in the Nordic area – Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm – along with the Italian Embassy in Sweden, present “Equal Cities – Planning for equality, inclusion and an effective presence of women in the civic landscape”, an online conference scheduled for 3 March on gender equality in contemporary cities.

The event is aimed at architects, municipal managers, strategic consultants, elected representatives, stakeholders in different public agencies, public policy managers as well as everyone in civil society. Gender equality is an indispensable requirement for wellbeing and urban development, as well as being a basic right endorsed by international and European treaties and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nations. Gender equality truly facilitates the improved development of policies: local governments carry out a crucial role in steering this type of change. Gender equality in cities may be an important indicator to measure the complexity of gender equality related issues in other environments, and is of fundamental importance in monitoring progress over time at European level. The speakers from Italy will include Silvia Serrelli, a civil engineer and lecturer on urban development at the University of Sassari and Eleonora Carrano, an architect with the Sapienza University in Rome.
