The Ambassador of Italy to Iraq, Maurizio Greganti, together with the Minister of Culture, Hassan Nadhem, was the guest of honour of the “Arab Manuscript Day” recently organized at the National Museum of Baghdad. During the event, which focused on Italy and its valuable contribution to the protection of Iraqi manuscripts, the exhibition “The Legacy of Manuscripts in the Era of Globalization” was inaugurated.

The exhibition – inaugurated by the Italian Ambassador and the Minister – focuses on the cultural diversity in manuscripts, in Arabic calligraphy and in the works of the ” Manuscript House”, an institution that deals with the protection and restoration of volumes of national prestige. Ambassador Greganti could note the quality and breadth of the Italian contribution to the efforts to preserve Iraqi heritage: the restoration of the archival and book material exhibited, in fact, took place within the framework of the MAECI-MIBACT Convention, as part of the project for the support of the institutional action for the protection and recovery of Iraqi cultural heritage. The project, launched in 2018, enabled Italian experts to train young local restorers in the art of manuscript preservation, by also providing equipment, tools and machinery for the digitalization of works.
