On 27 February the Italian Cultural Institute in Krakow is organising the Conference ‘Gustaw Herling: un ritratto tra Italia e Polonia” (Gustaw Herling: a portrait between Italy and Poland). Polish by birth, held prisoner in the Soviet Union, later a member of General Anders’ 2nd Army Corps, Gustaw Herling was an eclectic and committed intellectual, as well as a cultural bridge between Poland, Italy and Naples, in particular, where he lived for many decades.
The round table discussion organised at the Institute – during which Herling’s role in post-World War II literature and civic engagement will be explored – will be attended by Andrea F. De Carlo, Professor of Polish Language and Literature at the University of Naples L’Orientale; Marta Herling, Secretary General of the Italian Institute for Historical Studies, founded in Naples by Benedetto Croce; Magdalena Śniedziewska, Researcher at the Institute of Polish Philology at the University of Wroclaw; Józef Maria Ruszar, Director of the Instytut Literatury in Krakow.
Simultaneous translation from Italian into Polish will be provided.
