Italy will continue to support Serbia in its EU accession process, after our endeavours to help it obtain candidate status. This was Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi’s message in a meeting with the Serbian Foreign Minister, Vuk Jeremic, which took place today in Brussels before the EU Foreign Ministers’ Council. Jeremic thanked Italy for its strong support for Serbia, which was taking part for the first time in the Council, in the special format extended to candidate countries.


11.00 hours – Syria: Things are moving but we need to obtain a UN resolution in the next few weeks.


The situation in Syria remains dramatic “but things are moving”. This was Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi’s comment on the statement on the Syrian crisis by the President of the United Nations Security Council. “However, we need to obtain a Security Council resolution in the next few weeks”, said Terzi on his arrival in Brussels for the Foreign Ministers’ Council.


10.30 hours – Servicemen: I’ll be discussing the EU contacts with the High Representative today. The question must be resolved without delay.


Minister Giulio Terzi, in Brussels today for the EU Foreign Ministers’ Council, said he would be reviewing, with the EU’s High Representative, Catherine Ashton, the EU contacts in India on the question of the Italian servicemen. Terzi also said that “the contacts that have taken place so far are giving the Indians too the impression that the question must be resolved without delay”.
