Italy-Romania: we support Bucharest’s entry into the Schengen area, says Terzi

Italy is a “strong supporter” of Romania’s entry into the Schengen area for the free circulation of European citizens, and the question has reached a “highly important juncture”. This was Minister Giulio Terzi’s comment at the end of a meeting at the foreign ministry in Rome with his Romanian counterpart Cristian Diaconescu.

Terzi underscored, the “close collaboration that Italy has with Romania on questions regarding our common European interests”. The two ministers also discussed the large Romanian community in Italy of “one million persons”, “mainly skilled workers in various sectors”, as well as Italy’s extensive business community in Romania, “an extraordinary group of 31,000 firms”. The two cases, Terzi pointed out, represent “a contribution to the economic development of both countries”.
