A meeting for Italian NGOs and associations active in the defence and promotion of human rights, was dedicated to international deadlines regarding human rights matters, especially within the United Nations and the European Union.
A useful and constructive exchange of information and assessments, for which all participants expressed their sincere appreciation.
Italian priorities
Particular attention was paid to Italy’s traditional priorities in this sector, such as the defence of religious freedoms, the international campaign against the death penalty and the fight against female genital mutilation, ahead of the initiatives included in the agenda of the international organisations.
The question was raised of creating an independent national human rights commission, the design of which is currently under discussion in the parliament.
