Sicily and Russia, friends now as they were back in 1908, when Russian sailors were the first to come to the rescue when the island was hit by a devastating earthquake that left over 100,000 dead.
One hundred and four years later, President of the Centre for National Glory and the Foundation of St. Andrew the Apostle Vladimir Yakunin, Italian Ambassador Antonio Zanardi Landi and Russian Federation Ambassador Alexey Meshkov joined the mayors and presidents of the provinces hit at the time to dedicate a bronze monument in Messina and a commemorative stele in Reggio Calabria in memory of that precious intervention.
