A ceremony to commemorate judges Falcone and Borsellino, 20 years on from their tragic deaths. During the ceremony, attended by Justice Minister Titus Corlatean, the Mayor, and the head of the DEA at the Italian Embassy, the Italian Ambassador, Mario Cospito, remembered the high moral stature of the two judges killed by the mafia. He underscored their strong service ethic and their commitment to the battle to assert the rule of law and legality itself.
“Two Italian heroes”, said the Ambassador, “whose ideas transcend national borders and serve as an example in Romania too, especially at this sensitive time in the country’s democratic history”. Minister Corlatean recalled Falcone and Borsellino’s commitment and hoped that their sacrifice would be an example to all those, in Italy and in other countries, who care about justice and civil co-existence. After the speeches, a pillar bearing a plaque in honour of the two magistrates was unveiled. An oak tree brought in especially from by Pistoia was planted.
