Egypt has had a “decisive role in achieving this truce”, Terzi underscored, who spoke by telephone today with his colleague Kamel Amr, to whom he extended Italy’s deep appreciation. Terzi also expressed his “deep regret for the death and destruction caused by the recent hostilities and major concern for their possible impact on the stability of the entire region”, also expressing his “satisfaction with the ceasefire in Gaza, which puts an end to the intolerable suffering of the civilian population”, while underscoring “Israel’s right to its own security”.

Terzi reiterated his hope that this cessation of hostilities would be “the first step toward revival of the dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, a goal for which Italy will continue to strive actively together with its main partners and regional actors”.
