“System Italy”: new web portal to increase tourism in Sicily

Sicily has got a new digital look to attract growing numbers of tourists, with the new “’Sicilia 360” portal presented at the Farnesina in the presence of Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi.

Good practice to promotion the “country system”

The aim is to exploit to best effect Sicily’s “economic potential and artistic and cultural treasures and its tremendous human assets”, explained Terzi. He underscored that this initiative is part of the good practice to be implemented to promote “System Italy”. The emerging economies – the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – are the main focus for tourism policies. The numbers of Chinese tourists visiting Italy in 2013 is set to rise by 30%, bringing over one billion euros in revenue, noted Terzi.

Over 30 billion euros in revenue

Tourism brought 76 billion foreign visitors to Italy in 2011, producing revenue of 30 billion euros. But the south of the country is receiving just 10% of this income. “Sicilia 360” will act as an additional tool to increase these figures, explained the President of Unioncamere Sicilia, Giuseppe Pace.

The portal provides web visitors with a number of search engines, information on transport and hotels, and a complete – 360-degree – overview of the island. It also includes information on the agri-food business and cultural industry.
