Promoting the inclusion of children with disabilities in Lebanon’s primary schools. That is the aim of the pilot project being conducted by Gruppo di Volontariato Civile, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), along with the Youth Association for the Blind. The project was presented in Beirut during a meeting at the Lebanese Education Ministry. The initiative was launched in April 2012 and has received over 675,000 euros in co-funding from Italy. Its goal is to test the strategy for the inclusion of differently abled children in the educational system, through a pilot project in six schools located throughout Lebanon.
Italy’s wealth of experience
The project also seeks to introduce good practice in Lebanon, drawing on Italy’s wealth of experience in this area, the overall aim being to ensure that children with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities.
The event was attended by the Minister for Education, Hassan Diab, the Director of the Center for Research and Development, Leila Fayyad; the First Secretary from the Italian Embassy, Palma D’Ambrosio; as well as teachers and head teachers from the schools involved and representatives of associations protecting the rights of people with disabilities.
