The Indonesian president, Yudhoyono, has unveiled the 2014 budget to a joint session of parliament. Public spending will reach 174 billion dollars, an increase of 5.2% on the previous year. The deficit is forecast to fall from 2.4% to 1.5%, while the public debt/GDP ratio is projected to be 22-24%. The budget gives more scope for capital spending, which is set to grow by 7% (about 19 billion dollars), mainly for infrastructure development projects. The GDP growth target for 2014 is 6.4%.
