Diplomazia Economica/Sole 24 Ore – Tourism: Italy Best Country, according to Conde Nast Traveler

Tourism: Italy Best Country, according to Conde Nast Traveler

Conde Nast Traveler, one of the leading British-American tourism magazines, has given Italy its “Readers’ Travel Award”, a prize that recognises the commercial and cultural value of Italy as a tourism destination. Italy was voted Favourite Country, overtaking not just France, in second place, the United States (3rd) and Spain (4th), but also non-European and eastern nations. The award is an indicator of the British and American public’s appreciation of Italy as a travel destination: nominations and winners were chosen by UK and US readers of the magazine, which has a circulation of 830,000.

Sicily won first place in the Favourite Islands category, beating exotic destinations like Bali (2nd), the Maldives (3rd), and the islands of Greece and Spain. Rome and Florence came 5th and 6th in the Overseas Cities category.

Turning to the tourism industry itself, the Hotel Splendido in Portofino took first place among the leisure hotels of Europe, Asia Minor and Russia, while Citalia took third place in the Specialist Tour Operators category, with Think Sicily coming second in the Villa Rental Companies category.

To crown Italy’s achievement, the country won the Best of the Best award, being voted Number One in the World. Source: infoMercatiEsteri. Read more, in Italian.
