The event at Villa Madama –“Women and nutrition: ideas for a sustainable future” – is a prelude to the first conference organised within the context of Women for Expo. Speakers at the conference to take place on 14 November at FAO will include Emma Bonino and UN S-G Special Representative for Food Security and Nutrition David Nabarro. The seminar, organised in the margins of the preparations for the International Conference on Nutrition, will offer an opportunity to examine food security and nutrition and focus attention on the role of women. Immediately afterward, at 14:00 and also at FAO, the UN’s Commissioner General of preparations for the UN at the Expo, and Deputy Director of the FAO forestry division, Eduardo Rojas-Briales, will sign a contract for the UN’s participation in the 2015 Milan EXPO.
The many guests at the ceremony will include foreign minister Emma Bonino, FAO director general José Graziano Da Silva, IFAD president Kanayo Nwanze and WFP director of the partnership with governments division Claudia von Rehl. The UN and, in particular its agri-food hub in Rome consisting of FAO, WFP and IFAD, will be well-placed to contribute a wealth of skills and experience in the areas of food security, nutrition and the battle against poverty.
