Mustafa Baltacı, Executive Vice President of the Istanbul Bourse (BIST), stated that Turkey’s recent problems had not negatively influenced foreign investments and that, consequently, the Bourse continued to attract investors. In support of this statement, the Vice President cited both the BIST-Nasdaq OMX accord after the start of corruption investigations, as well as the volume of foreign investor property stocks (63-63%) quoted on the Turkish index. The BIST is based principally on stocks in the steel and iron sector (for which Turkey is the world’s sixth largest producer) and in agriculture. Speaking of the near future, Baltacı emphasised the need for investment in the sectors of technology and infrastructure.
