Bolivia: President Morales OKs petrochemical project (Tecnimont)
During the 4th international congress on hydro-carbons organised by Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolvianos (YPFB), Bolivian president Morales announced his government’s decision to go forward on the construction of a petrochemical hub in the Tarija Department for the production of ethylene-polyethylene and propylene-polypropylene with an initial investment of 1.8 billion USD. The hub would position Bolivia as one of the major plastics producer in the southern cone of Latin America. The decision was taken on the basis of the results of a preliminary study conducted by the Italian concern Maire Tecnimont. A competition will now be announced for the hub’s design, to be followed by another for its execution.
