The Hotel Sheraton in Addis Ababa will host the 2014 edition of the Africa Hotel Investment Forum from 29 September to October 1st. Tourism is on the rise in Ethiopia according to the Ministry of Tourism, with the number of foreign visitors since 1991 up by 12-13%. In 2013, the sector accounted for 4.2% of GDP (10.3% when considering all ancillary activities) and 9.5% of total employment. The World Travel & Tourism Council of London estimates that the current growth trend, which is over 4% annually, will hold steady over the coming decade. Despite the rising influx of tourists, Ethiopia’s natural, historic and cultural attractions appear to be little known or exploited, and therefore offer ample potential for development.
