An exhibition of works by Italian sculptor Salvatore Scarpitta (1919-2007) opened today at Washington’s Hirshhorn modern and contemporary art museum to celebrate the Italian EU presidency. “After bringing Titian’s Danae to the National Gellery for the opening of the presidency semester, we are now participating in the celebration of a great artist of our own times who united the two shores of the Atlantic with his creativity”, asserted Italian ambassador to the United States Claudio Bisogniero. “Salvatore Scarpitta: The Traveler” will run through 11 January 2015, and is the “first exhibition dedicated to Scarpitta in the US in 10 years and the first ever on the east coast”, according to curator Melissa Ho.
