Italian exports to Western Australia (WA) in the 2013-2014 fiscal year (July 2013-June 2014) amounted to 1.028 million, up 30% compared with the previous fiscal year and 142% compared with 2011-12. Italy even outpaced Germany to become the WA’s top European supplier with a 22% share. There are over 40 Italian firms established in Western Australia, and there are many active in the Oil & Gas sector and related infrastructures (notably ENI, Saipem, GE Nuovo Pignone, Tenova, Tenaris and Ansaldo STS). But WA energy and mining firms have also made significant investments in Italy. Energia Minerals, which holds 10 exploration permits in Northern Italy, today announced an investment of 8.15 million dollars in the development of zinc mining in Gorno, near Bergamo. Other WA firms with operations in Italy are Po Valley (which runs two gas plants and has 12 exploration permits) and Key Petroleum.
