Iraq: new Baghdad terminal and Nasiriya airport
Iraqi Minister for Transport Al Zubaidi announced that, in application of the BOT formula, the World Bank would finance the construction of a fifth terminal at the Baghdad international airport to service international departures. The call for tenders will go out as soon as the accords with the IFC have been completed and the federal budget approved. An airport is also to be built at Nasiriya using a part of the facilities of the existing Imam Ali military base. Although initially intended for domestic and cargo flights only, plans for the airport could be amended in light of improvements in the security situation and the development of archaeological tourism.
