Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova and President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region Debora Serracchiani met yesterday evening at the foreign ministry in Rome. Their discussions centred on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region, which will be launched today in Brussels by Minister for Foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni. The FVG Region is coordinator for the Italian Regions of Pillar 2 concerning transport and energy. They also discussed the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region, set to be examined in Milan on December 1st. “For a series of geographic, historical, economic and cultural reasons, Friuli Venezia Giulia is a strategic bridge toward the Western Balkans”, Under-Secretary Della Vedova observed, underscoring the autonomous region’s strong international aspirations.
