Chamber of Deputies – Security in East Asia

Security in East Asia will be the main theme of a seminar on geopolitical and economic scenarios in the Western Pacific scheduled for 30 March in the Chamber of Deputies (Lower House). The event, organised by the Italy-Japan Foundation, the Embassy of Japan in Italy, the Japanese Cultural Institute in Rome and the Italy Japan Business Group, has the support of the Farnesina. Prof. Matake Kamiya of the National Defense College of Tokyo will illustrate Japan’s position on questions concerning security in East Asia. In particular, North Korea’s development of nuclear and missile capabilities, the changes in military balances in East Asia owing to the rise of China, issues surrounding the islands of Senkaku (or Diaoyu in Chinese) and Takeshima (or Dokdo in Korean) and  general variations in global power balances.
