Korea: EU-Korea Innovation Day in Seoul, focus on science and technology cooperation

Scientific and technological cooperation between the European Union and Korea was at the centre of the EU-Korea Innovation Day organised by the Delegation of the European Union and the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea, which was held on 25 march in Seoul. The event’s 400 participants included representatives of governments, public and private research institutes and universities.

The European Union’s main research programmes were presented along with the science and technology cooperation initiatives currently under way between EU member countries and Korean institutions. Particular importance was given to the Horizon 2020 Programme. In addition to the programme’s financial endowments of approximately 80 billion euro, light was also shed on the themes of research that could be explored and opportunities for Korean participation. Special emphasis was placed on industrial research and, in particular, on the theme of “smart cities”. Representatives from European industrial spheres stressed the potential benefits offered by joint EU-Korea collaborations, especially with regard to energy, ICT and mobility.
