Australia launches programme to build fleet of frigates and patrol boats

The Australian government launched a programme to build a fleet of nine multi-purpose frigates for the Australian Navy within 2020, in addition to offshore patrol vessels. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Tony Abbot, who specified that the programme would cost a total of 39 billion AUD (approximately 27.1 billion EUR) and is expected to create 2,500 jobs.
