The 10th edition of the Cartagena International Music Festival is in full swing, featuring a number of Italian performers. These include soloists from the Concerto Italiano, conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini and the jazz guitarist and composer Alberto Capelli. The Fundacion Salvi and the Italian Cultural Institute in Bogota organised the festival and the participation of the Italian artists. The festival, which ends on Jan. 16, prides itself as a bridge between European and Latin American music.
Tenth edition of the Cartagena Music Festival
This 10th edition of the Cartagena Music Festival is entitled “Hacia Tierra Firme” (“Towards Terra Firma”). The programme offers a musical voyage from late 15th century Spain to the New World, retracing the journey of Christopher Columbus, which over the centuries has led to the integration of the traditions, beliefs, languages and sounds of the Old and New Worlds. This “journey” is divided into three parts: European works that have become reference points for Latin American composers; music of various periods from the New Continent, which shows its European origins and mixture of different languages and finally; works from Europe influenced by earlier unknown languages from the New World.
