Italy and Mexico are increasing bilateral cooperation. The Italian ambassador in Mexico City, Alessandro Busacca, in recent days met with Director General of ProMexico, Francisco Gonzalez Diaz, to take stock of economic and trade relations between the two countries and upcoming promotional activities. Ambassador Busacca also told the Director of ProMexico about the difficulties that some Italian products, especially food, have in accessing the Mexican market. Lastly they discussed the prospects of the Italy-Mexico Business Council, which brings together leading companies from both countries and that last met in June in Milan during a visit to Italy by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. Bilateral trade continued to grow in 2015, with Italian exports up 13.9 percent in the first nine months of the year, confirming Mexico as one of Italy’s main trading partners in Latin America. However, there is ample room for improvement, especially as regards the import of Mexican products into Italy, which the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE) is supporting through Mexican participation in the main Italian trade fairs.
