The Mozambique government has approved Eni’s plan of development (POD) for the Coral gas field regarding the construction and installation of an offshore floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility, the first on the African continent. About 8 billion dollars will be invested in the project and production should begin in 2020. The approval of the POD covers the first phase of development of the group’s discovery of 140 billion cubic meters of gas in the offshore Area 4 in the Rovuma Basin. Most of the reserves discovered up to now (Mamba field) will be developed in the future, mainly with onshore liquefaction plants.
