Uruguay – Punta del Este International Film Festival opens its 19th edition

‎Uruguay’s Punta del Este International Film Festival has opened its 19th edition. The festival, hosted in one of Latin America’s biggest beach resorts, this year celebrates the 65th anniversary from the inauguration of the Palacio del Festival, which was its first venue. The festival will run from February 21 to 27 and, like every year, will also see the participation of Italy thanks to the support of the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) and Embassy in Montevideo, in cooperation with the Municipality of Maldonado. The festival’s programme includes the screening of a series of films, including Marco Bellocchio’s “Blood of My Blood” and Cristina Comencini’s “Latin lover”.

The festival will screen a total of 50 international films, with a special focus on Latin American regional and continental cinema. The festival also awards prizes and special recognitions and a “Special Achievement Award” will go to a Latin American film-maker. The event also forms part of the Year of Italy in Latin America, an initiative promoted by the Italian Foreign Ministry in partnership with the Ministries of Cultural Heritage and Tourism and of Economic Development, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI) and many Italian companies.
