A cooperation agreement is in place for the issuance of electronic AT identification cards, approved by Eduardo Brunetti, Director General of the Administration and ITC of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), and Ruggiero Di Biase, Rear Admiral and General Director of Automated IT Systems at the Ministry of Defense. The cards will be issued to the staff of the Farnesina (Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry) and to its diplomatic-consular network, like the ones already utilised by the civilian and military staff of the Ministry of Defense.
The agreement will bring MAECI to the top of the list of those administrations changing to electronic AT cards complying with the format prescribed by the Jan. 8 decree of the President of the Council of Ministers, providing staff with a digital ID comparable to the electronic identification card, valid for control of physical access to the Farnesina and working positions, access to online services provided by public administrations, and use of the digital signature on electronic documentation.
A joint Foreign Affairs/Defense committee has been set up to carry out the project, tasked with handling the technicalities leading to implementation.
The committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Defense (the 4th Chief of Staff Office, the C4 Command of Defense and the IT Systems Centre of the Army) and from the Foreign Affairs Ministry – namely the heads of the Administration and ICT General Directorate, the Resources and Innovation General Directorate, and the General Inspectorate for the Ministry and Offices Abroad, as well as the Service for Legal Affairs, Diplomatic Litigation and Treaties.
