Sweden to invest 30.8 billion euros in infrastructure
National Supplier’s Day, a conference organised by Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration, was held in Stockholm.  A gathering of national and foreign companies operating in the field of railway and road infrastructure, this year’s meeting illustrated upcoming projects and developments.  The General Manager of Trafikeverket, Lena Erixon, explained that over the next few years Sweden will invest 281 billion Swedish kronor (about 30.8 billion euros) in the construction and modernisation of highways and secondary roads, railways and dams. Another 155 billion Swedish kronor (17 billion euros) will be used for the maintenance of highways and 86 billion Swedish kronor (about 9.5 billion euros) will be earmarked for the maintenance of the country’s railway line. Trafikverket has estimated that 2,800 construction sites will be opened in the next few years and in 2018 50% of the projects will be underway. Ms Erixon called upon the companies present at the event for their support and highlighted how important it is for foreign enterprises to take part in the projects as Sweden does not have  the capacity to satisfy demand. The calls for project proposals will be published in 2017, at least according to preliminary Trafikverket estimates.
