MAECI-FIGC – Experience and technique of Italian football in the Caribbean

A two-stage workshop, which saw Marcello Lippi bring Italy’s experience and technique on the football field to the Caribbean, ended on May 5th. The second stage of the workshop was held in Antigua, gathering the national team managers for the Bahamas, Belize, and Jamaica, after the first stage in St Vincent was attended by those of Guyana, Saint Lucia, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), was therefore able to add another piece to the consolidated cooperation with Caribbean nations in capacity building (many sectors are already the focus of our cooperation: culture, renewable energy, and the fight against crime). Minister Plenipotentiary, Paolo Serpi, Special Envoy for the Caribbean Countries from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, pointed out that “the success of the initiative and the enthusiastic welcome we received are further testimony to the special relationship Italy has built with these countries over the course of time”.

The collaboration with the FIGC continues with projects aimed at other areas of the world as well: Italy’s proven experience in capacity building and our recognised technical ability in the football sector result in frequent requests for cooperation from numerous nations in this sector.
