The Italian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to go “green” after Abu Dhabi authorities granted authorisation to install solar panels on its roof and parking lots. The embassy will be the first to be solar-powered, with an estimated output of 45.36 MWh of electricity per year. The Chairman of Abu Dhabi’s Regulation & Supervision Bureau (RSB), Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, spoke about the importance of the initiative, emphasising the Emirate’s 25-point plan to promote environmental sustainability and to optimize the use of natural resources. Italian Ambassador Liborio Stellino expressed great satisfaction in the result, noting that it is the fruit of “an extraordinary collaboration with RSB and the support of Enel Green Power, in line with the Italian foreign ministry’s attention for environmental stability”. He added that the solar panels will be installed “just a few months before Italy takes on the chair of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s General Assembly”. Mr Stellino affirmed, “I am confident that this great initiative in Abu Dhabi will further bolster the Emirate’s reputation and its projects within the diplomatic and international community.”
